Mark your calendars--"Thunder over Thurmond" Fireworks Celebration is set!
A spectacular fireworks show that will be "visible for miles" is promised for the eighth annual Thunder over Thurmond Fireworks Show, July 10, 2010!
This year the Chambers of Commerce from Lincoln County, Georgia, and McCormick County, SC are sharing manpower and ideas that will enhance every attendee's experience. "Having both our Chambers working together is so important--after all, we share the J. Strom Thurmond Lake. We want as many people to see this patriotic event as possible," states co-committee chair, James MacLeod.
With the support of the Army Corps of Engineers, we have selected our new fireworks launch site for 2010 . This new site is located more centrally on the lake approximately a mile downstream from the 378 Bridge adjacent the Dorn Fishing facility.
The Airshow sponsored by Gary Ward Airshows will kick off around 7PM with the spectacular fireworks show to begin at dusk. This new locaion will provide spectators with a truly unique, visual experience that will be choreographed to music broadcast over 105.7 The Eagle.
Primary event parking will be located at the Dorn Fishing Facility which is located just south of Route 378, approximately 2 and 1/2 miles west of McCormick. A nominal fee for parking will be charged to help defray the cost of site cleanup and operation of the event. Food and drink vendors will be available on-site but no alcohol will be sold at the Dorn Fishing Facility. Tailgate picnics, chairs, etc., will be attendees' responsibilities. Gary Ward Air Shows of Lincolton, Ga is providing the Air Show. The air show will feature Gary Ward, Gregg Connell and, Brian Taylor; which will provide three different airshows flying over the water. The elaborate fireworks display provided by corporate sponsors and, Rocking R International of McCormick, SC. The show will begin at dusk. Many other locations for viewing both--on the water--and up and down the two states' shorelines will provide tremendous vantage points for viewing.
